GARUGLIERI architetti

Forte dei Marmi is a collection of squares, but none of them retains the true character of the main square. This identity has been lost, and although the two key elements, the Fortino and the church, still coexist in the Piazza del Fortino, they are no longer central, but have merged.
In the design proposal, the interior space is not left empty, but is instead enriched by the shops and the new entrance to the Caffè Principe, as well as by the terraces. The space beneath the square becomes an automated bicycle storage facility, bringing a lively feel to the space and also generating economic returns.
There is also another void to be filled: the identity of the block, currently internally segmented between contrasting elements, which interact with a context that ranges from typical local buildings to more modern structures.
Project Gallery
The project area stands on what 100 years ago was the yard where marble blocks and slabs were stored, awaiting shipment.
In the spirit of this place, one can rediscover the spark that shaped the soul of Forte dei Marmi, a city that, with its close relationship with the marble quarries and its maritime tradition, serves as a bridge between these two worlds.
Marble and water thus become the protagonists of this project through polychrome forms and colors, achieved with elements of local tradition and stylistic research.
